Petworth

Petworth is a beautiful residential neighborhood in northwest DC that features brick row houses and single family homes that are easily accessible to the Georgia Ave-Petworth station on the green line of the Metro.  This area of Washington, DC is home to about 20,000 people with a mixture of races and about 20% of those in the area being children.

Petworth is home to many public schools which include Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School (9th through 12th), Truesdell Education Campus (Pre-K through 8), and Powell Elementary School (Pre-K through 5th), as well as multiple charter schools.  Petworth’s Neighborhood Library was built in 1939 and was recently renovated in 2011.  It offers access to DC Public Library’s general circulation items and a variety of activities including yoga, teen gaming and crafting.

For its residents’ enjoyment, Petworth offers a variety of neighborhood events.  From May through September residents can enjoy jazz performances at Petworth Park through the Petworth Jazz Project.  Every Saturday, May through October, the Petworth Community Market offers a farmers market where locals can purchase produce, items from local vendors and prepared foods.  The Celebrate Petworth street festival is an annual event that is scheduled in late spring each year and the Upshur Street Arts and Crafts festival features homemade crafts each year in December.
